Come for a week. Let this be the summer you give yourself these things: gift of time solace of silence lasting connection of spiritual friends peace of resting in the Divine Heart feast of creativity attuning to the slow heartbeat of creation. Based upon the 2018 book by Rev. Anita Amstutz, Soul Tending: Journey into the Heart of Sabbath (Skylight Paths Publishing, Barnes and Noble/Indy/Amazon), you will explore solo and with other retreatants, themes of Sabbath, simplicity, the practice of creativity and prayer, hospitality, play, healing of nature and reimagining work.

Soul Tenders will be based at retreat house Casa del Sol which inspires the imagination and calls forth a deep solace just by the sheer magnificence of the soaring painted cliffs and intimate riparian canyons around it. You will find yourself revived and restored in community with human and non-human alike.

Like the good beekeeper that she is, Anita will be doing cross fertilization with other summer programming such as Ghost Ranch Chorale, Prophetic Action: A Journey of Love, Order of the Sacred Earth, Interplay, Gospel Choir, as well as inviting special guests to create a rich menu of possibilities for your time away.

For those staying multiple weeks, your bridge night (Saturday night) is included.

Learning Outcomes: Learn the rich interfaith Biblical history of Sabbath as resistance, rest and

renewal; Explore current/contemporary cultural themes of restlessness, moral decay and anxiety;

Daily Sabbath Soul Tending Practices alone and with Sabbath Circles of other participants;

Experience Jesus’ renewed vision of Sabbath Healing Deepen into your own Sabbath practices

and create a Sabbath map for yourself.

Instructor Background: Rev. Anita Amstutz, M.A., MDiv, is an ordained Mennonite Minister

who has led congregations for over 15 years. She has also worked ecumenically at the Center for

Action and Contemplation, a teaching ministry for contemplative prayer and action in the world.

At the intersection of Catholic mysticism and Mennonite practicality, she has created and led

liturgy, taught spiritual formation, preached, counseled and personally wrestled with what it

means to live from “Sabbath Mind”. She currently works as an interfaith Hospice Chaplain, lives

in Albuquerque New Mexico with her husband, 2 cats, where she tends half a million bees, sings,

dances and spends time in nature for soul tending.
