Wheel Throwing: Form & Fire

Led by Angela Smith Kirkman
Spend five immersive days at the wheel developing throwing skills while exploring how form, clay, glaze, flame, and atmosphere come together in a gas reduction firing.

This all-levels workshop is designed to meet students where they are. Beginners will build a solid foundation in wedging, centering, cylinders, bowls, trimming, and finishing, while more experienced throwers can pursue larger, altered, closed, assembled, or more refined forms with individualized instruction.

Rather than requiring every student to make the same objects, demonstrations and projects will respond to the experience, interests, and goals of the group. As the week progresses, students will refine their work, explore surface and glaze choices, bisque-fire their pieces, and prepare them for the gas kiln.

The workshop culminates in a communal gas reduction firing, followed by unloading, discussion, and exhibition of the finished work.
