Instructor Information: A full-time studio artist, Kathy Thaden’s mosaics range from abstract sculpture and landscapes to liturgical wall hangings and commissioned works. Working with glass or stone is transforming. The pieces are broken, change shape, fit together, and then made whole again. “As an artist, my work is informed by my faith, expressing awe at creation and the Creator. As a mosaicist, I treasure glass and stone scraps or discarded items from our throwaway consumer culture. It is important to me that nothing be wasted, finding beauty in what was once broken.” Kathy’s study of fine arts and degree in Commercial Art led her to a 25-year career in television art direction. She won numerous honors for graphic design, animation, and set design, including seven Emmy Awards. Seeking something more tactile, Kathy’s creativity for the past 15 years has flowed through contemporary mosaic art. A Professional Member of the Society of American Mosaic Artists and the Episcopal Church & Visual Arts, Kathy is founder and former President of Colorado Mosaic Artists.
