Intro to Art Quilting – G210747

Join us to learn how to build a beautiful bird quilt from a New Mexico grown quilt store owner, quilt designer, and sewing teacher.

In this beginner friendly class, we will build from the basics and will give demos and guidance on selecting fabrics, on raw-edge fused appliqué, and how to finish the quilt with binding. We will discuss different quilting techniques including how to use a walking foot, free-motion quilting , and if you like hand quilting! While these quilts may look intricate and difficult, with Melisa’s techniques they are quite simple to make and if you can use scissors and an iron you will be pleased with your results.

You can choose from 5 different bird designs, including the New Mexico State Bird the Roadrunner, and you will be taking home a roughly 28″ x35″ remembrance of your visit to Ghost Ranch.

Bernina sewing machines will be available for use or you can bring your own. A supply list will be available and a small fee will be charged to cover the cost of pattern, fabric, batting, needles, and thread. While all the fabrics will be included in the cost of the class, this is a great scrap buster, so feel free to bring more fabric as you may find it’s fun to have more variety.

To make shopping even easier, before class starts your instructor Melisa Hart will create an online shopping guide of all the supplies you will need, and a few extras you will find handy, at www.StitchologyABQ.com. All orders placed before class will be hand-delivered the first day of class.

Sunday-Friday, July 25-30

Tuition: $625 + $95 additional Material Fee = $720

During Covid safety period - single occupancy lodging is the standard
  • During Covid-19 periods, all lodging types will be single occupancy at no additional charge. Of course, you can share a room with a spouse, partner, family or another person that shares your full-time residence. The extra folks that share a room will pay for workshop registration fees and meals.
What is the difference between a room with private bath, a room with semi-private or shared bath, and a room with communal/dorm bath?

Private bath refers to the type of bathroom, not single occupancy

Private Bath Room: There is a bathroom in that one room that is not shared between or with any other rooms. The highest rate tier of Ghost Ranch lodging.

Semi-private/shared: There is a bathroom between two rooms that is shared by the occupants of the two adjoining sleeping rooms. These rooms will only be used as family or group suites, not to be shared by unknown neighbors as in the past.

Communal/dorm: There is a communal bathroom/shower in the lodging building and participants will need to exit their room to reach these facilities.
