Join us for a virtual pre-recorded book reading and live Question & Response with Margaret Wood, former companion to Georgia O’Keeffe. Margaret Wood is also author of A Painter’s Kitchen and Remembering Miss O’Keeffe. Margaret will share stories and insights from her personal experiences of working with Miss O’Keeffe. Moderated by the ranch’s Tours & Activities Manager Karen Butts.

    Karen Butts

    Karen Butts is the Tours and Education Manager at Ghost Ranch in Abiquiu, New Mexico where she develops curriculum for our tours, train guides and leads interpretive tours and walks. She became interested in Georgia O’Keeffe while taking an Art History class at Sarah Lawrence College. Karen is an outdoor enthusiast and has worked in the field teaching natural history in Montana, California and the desert Southwest. Karen specializes in the subject of Georgia O’Keeffe, Ghost Ranch and Southwest history and ecology. She has lectured, taught classes and developed numerous tours on these subjects.

    Margaret Wood

    Margaret Wood worked as a companion to Georgia O’Keeffe from 1977 to 1982 when the painter was in her nineties. Ms. Wood later wrote “A Painter’s Kitchen: Recipes from the Kitchen of Georgia O’Keeffe,” and the memoir, “Remembering Miss O’Keeffe.”

    Ms. Wood is currently a speech pathologist, providing therapy services for people with neurological diseases affecting voice and swallowing. She has been writing short stories and various series based on memoir since 1991. She has been an instructor with Karen Butts during Georgia O’Keeffe Immersion classes over the past several years.
