A Way in the Desert: Renewal Retreat Time for Pastors and Change Agents, 3-night & 5-night

Behold, I am doing a new thing;
now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?
I will make a way in the wilderness
and rivers in the desert. (Isaiah 43:19)

Weary prophets, pastors and priests, come to the high desert and tend your soul for a short season. This set aside Sabbath is a consecrated and holy time. It will ask you to cease your restless activity and hear the still small voice calling you.

Deep calls to deep among the shining rocks, piedra lumbre, of Ghost Ranch. It is a place to find a watering hole and the abundance of timelessness and eternal calm as you rest, enfolded in this landscape of solace.

Come and make a new beginning (Ezra 3:8), find rivers in the desert, and a way in the wilderness as you ponder what it means to return from COVID exile to  a post-pandemic faith for yourself and your community. Yhwh is a God of the desert and can be found by those who are drawn there.

This personal retreat will be designed by you. Ghost Ranch’s setting offers opportunities for wandering, art, yoga, journaling, meditation, reading, and exploration of inner and outer landscapes. A Sabbath library will be available for resourcing. It is a time for deeply listening and responding as well as simply be-ing and resting—whatever is being called forth. Daily meals in the Dining Hall, single room lodging with private bath and access to Ghost Ranch amenities will be provided (some for an additional fee).

You will walk side by side with a temporary community of sabbath, soul tending sojourners. You are welcome to participate in morning worship and share conversation, or not.

Throughout the week, a dedicated spiritual companion will be available for one on one discernment, holy conversation and creating a special time to honor your transition, as needed. This shepherd is one who knows how to listen with the ear of the open heart and provide a non-judgmental mind and hear the soul’s deepest longings and stirrings.

“Even more than rest, Sabbath keeping is about facing the deep roots of our restlessness. It is about facing “how it is”—our relentless lives that consume us, conspiring to keep us from the very intimacy we desire, and from health and wholeness, shalom. We will not move into a new way of being from the same mindset, we must find time to envision new answers” (Soul Tending: Journey into the Heart of Sabbath, by Anita Amstutz, excerpt from the introduction)

During Covid safety period - single occupancy lodging is the standard
  • During Covid-19 periods, all lodging types will be single occupancy at no additional charge. Of course, you can share a room with a spouse, partner, family or another person that shares your full-time residence. The extra folks that share a room will pay for workshop registration fees and meals.
What is the difference between a room with private bath, a room with semi-private or shared bath, and a room with communal/dorm bath?

Private bath refers to the type of bathroom, not single occupancy

Private Bath Room: There is a bathroom in that one room that is not shared between or with any other rooms. The highest rate tier of Ghost Ranch lodging.

Semi-private/shared: There is a bathroom between two rooms that is shared by the occupants of the two adjoining sleeping rooms. These rooms will only be used as family or group suites, not to be shared by unknown neighbors as in the past.

Communal/dorm: There is a communal bathroom/shower in the lodging building and participants will need to exit their room to reach these facilities.
