Stained Glass: A Glass Act with Paul Bareis-Golumb – G26070205

Date

Jul 12 – 18 2026

Playing with Light and catching the beautiful refracted colors that are created is the focus of this five day workshop. Whether you’re a beginner, or advanced you’re welcome to participate.

For beginners, we’ll focus on the craft of stained glass, where you learn the techniques like cutting, soldering, and assembling the glass. We’ll start with a simple, but beautiful suncatcher to help you learn the basics. Having gained both skill and confidence, you’ll move onto a more complicated pattern of your own choosing.

Advanced participants that have mastered the basic techniques, will focus on the creative art of this medium. This means you’ll design your piece from scratch, both in the pattern and in the color scheme. The Ghost Ranch Stained Glass Studio has an unbelievable wealth of stained glass to choose from. If you can imagine a color or texture, the studio probably has it! The only glass missing would be the jewels, prisms and glass blobs (focal points), which you’ll want to source and bring on your own.

Tools and materials are provided in this course. If you’d like to bring your own tools, please make sure they are clearly marked with your name or initials. If you’re a beginner and would like to continue doing stained glass at home, there’s a link in the Welcome Letter to YouTube of a basic tool list. If you bring these new tools along with you, you can learn how to use them during the course.

We “have come into the world… to be filled with Light, and to shine. The Sacred will be reborn within us and among us when we remember, again and again, the Light, naming it at the heart of one another and knowing that we carry it for one another.”  ~Mary Oliver, Pulitzer Prize winning poet

Touching the Sacred in Life through lyrical, narrative sculpture

Creating is how I enter into a relationship with the Sacred. Using ‘real magic’ I interact with real ‘stuff’ such as glass, steel, clay or copper and then faithfully watch as it is magically transformed into an object of beauty and meaning. To take an intangible concept or vision and then make it manifest in the physical world is to literally hold the power of creation in one’s hands. We all have this power to co-create and enter into this relationship with the Sacred. If the relationship is true, that which is created will bring forth love, light, growth and joy. My art is a witness to this magical process. My work can be viewed at https://paulrbareis.com/sculptor
