Ranch Clay

Led by Barbara Campbell
Ghost Ranch is located in a geography that is rich with clay deposits. On the ranch itself there are several areas of earthenware clay. Just off the ranch within ten miles are other types of deposits. One of which is a good stoneware clay body. In this course we will focus on the clay we can harvest from the ranch lands. Much of it is very close to our workspace. Once we have collected the raw clay we will bring it back to the studio for processing. With the help of some paper fiber, we should be able to start working with our freshly harvested clay by the first afternoon. We will experiment with several different building techniques to see which works best with the somewhat raw clay. How satisfying to know we can go out and dig in the dirt and with that end up with a beautiful, functional hand made vessel by the end of the week.
