Mosaics: Abstract Color Texture – G200714

Workshop ID: G200714
Dates: July 5 - July 11
Price: $775.00 - $1,540.00

Get in the Mosaic ACT: Abstract, Color & Texture! Inspiration can be found all around us? Explore ?seeing? an abstract composition by choosing from some images provided, then deconstructing your image into something new. Examine basic design principles to help with your abstract composition. During our week, begin each morning with a brief meditation on creativity and inspiration. After nailing down your abstract design, delve into adding texture, depth and dimension to create your monochromatic mosaic. Choose from pre-packaged materials in a single hue, consisting of smalti, miscellaneous glass, other random objects. A variety of adhesives will be available for you to build your mosaic on the board provided.

This workshop should particularly benefit those who want to explore a limited color palette and work in the abstract while responding to a variety of materials to give voice and texture to your design. Mosaic is such a tactile medium, this is your chance to see why! Students with some basic mosaic experience may learn further mosaic fundamentals and how to apply those techniques to their art. Experience with cutting glass is helpful but not necessary. Cutting instruction with assorted glass is taught as well as how to grout and finish your pieces. This workshop is great for beginning mosaic artists as well as anyone who would like to hone some mosaic skills.

Come learn a bit of mosaic history and discover what is new in modern mosaics. Most participants may complete one mosaic during the week, and some go on to finish another project of your choosing. All supplies are furnished for at least one mosaic with many extra supplies on hand for more. Upon registration, students will receive a short email list of items to bring. Open to anyone over age 13 of all levels.
