Abstraction in Cold Wax Techniques – G2010112

Workshop ID: G2010112
Dates: October 4 - October 10
Price: $775.00 - $1,540.00

Explore abstract painting and the diversity of cold-wax medium used with oil paint, pigment sticks and powdered pigments. Cold-wax medium is wonderful for all painters to experiment with, using non-traditional tools to achieve texture and finishes similar to encaustic but without the equipment, caustic fumes and heat. This exciting medium is gaining widespread popularity, and opens doors for oil and other painters to explore new techniques and surface effects. In addition to these effects there will be guidance and instruction as to help with painting abstractly. Through one on one support and reviewing some of the basic principles of art she has encouraged all levels of artists to explore their own voice and style. Cindy has been a painter for over 20 years and an instructor for much of that time. She has been honored to have taught at Ghost Ranch several times and throughout the Southeast. The first couple of days your time will be the studio painting for the morning and afternoon sessions. Evenings can be open time or class discussion. As you begin to develop your techniques you will venture more outside the studio to observe the landscape and develop ideas that will influence your work. By Thursday, if weather permits, we will visit The White Place-Plaza Blanca in Abiquiu, NM made famous by Georgia O’Keeffe’s paintings. According to instructor Cindy, “Cold-wax medium has totally changed the way I approach painting. We work hard and have fun playing with our tools during the class time. The workshop is such a great way to experiment and find new ways to paint. Together we explore the landscape of Ghost Ranch through this medium as we develop layers of paint and texture which will result in introspective and emotional interpretations of your Ghost Ranch experience. “
