Painting Strategies for Invention & Inspiration with KB Jones – G26070113
This workshop is for all levels. Demonstration and instruction will be given to the group at the beginning of each day, followed by substantial time to work independently, with optional one-on one-guidance. Lectures and critiques will be provided, and we will look at a wide variety of inspiration, from traditional landscape painting, to early animation, to Japanese prints. Artists with a history of work in New Mexico, such as Susan Rothenberg, Agnes Martin, and Bruce Nauman will also be discussed. Students will leave the course with several finished pieces.

KB JonesKB Jones (b. Huntsville, Texas) is an artist living, working, and teaching in New York City. Her paintings were included in Plein Air, an exhibition at MOCA Tucson and The Armory Center for the Arts. Plein Air, curated by Aurora Tang, explored shifting ideas of Western landscape, fieldwork, and painting. Recent solo shows include The Land and the Fog, at Rachel Uffner Gallery in New York City and Green Lights, in Fairbanks, Alaska. Both of these exhibitions explored the relationship between mind and landscape. In 2020, Jones was awarded a residency at The Chinati Foundation, where she has since returned to lead a painting workshop. She has a BA in Philosophy and Visual Arts from Columbia University and an MFA in Painting from The University of New Mexico, Albuquerque. She is excited to return to New Mexico this summer, a place that significantly shaped her artistic development.
