Advanced Photography with David Rider – G26050105

Date

May 03 – 09 2026

This immersion workshop invites you to deepen your creative vision as you connect with peers across the genres of portrait, landscape, street, macro and fine-arts photography. Embracing Ghost Ranch’s awesome beauty and a day trip to Santa Fe, participants will balance daily group photoshoots with solo time to capture compelling images. Our rhythm blends active photography with group discussion and photo review that allows us to share feedback on each other’s work. Participants can focus on one photo genre or work across the spectrum to hone a creative voice and build a body of work.

Each day anchors with sunrise and sunset photoshoots where you can join a group or hike solo on nearby trails. On Wednesday, we will carpool into Santa Fe to capture its multicultural street, portrait and architectural photo ops.

Every successful photo emerges from: 1) the photographer’s imagination; 2) technical skill with their camera; and 3) processing work to enhance an image.

Each photo has strengths and weaknesses that the workshop identifies through respectful critique and feedback.  When our work is viewed by others, we remain silent to let the image stand on its own.  When viewing others’ photos, we look carefully and offer helpful insights regarding composition, use of light, mood, narrative, and minimal distractions.

This advanced workshop presumes you know your digital camera’s strengths and limitations. You understand how to control focus, aperture and shutter speed. You are comfortable editing and processing your images with your chosen software. You enjoy sharing your images and receiving feedback. You shoot with manual settings and use RAW format over jpeg.

A recommended gear list will be sent to participants two weeks before our workshop begins.

Join us for a week of conversation, skill development and visual storytelling.
