This course is designed to develop skills related to making silver jewelry. We will introduce jewelry tools and how to use them. We will explain silver soldering and discuss the torch. Surface embellishment (stamping, hammer techniques and hand engraving) will be demonstrated.

Students can expect to complete 2 or more pieces.
I am excited to share the idea of Contemporary Southwest Jewelry! The ranch has a fully equipped silversmith shop. The surrounding environment will add inspiration to your work!
GENERAL WORKSHOP HOURS
Class schedule is 9:00am to 12:00pm; 1;00pm to 5:00pm
There is NO evening class.
(As the afternoon goes by, students may tire and have accidents. I encourage students to explore the ranch, seek silence, recharge.)
SUPPLY LIST: Students may bring their own hand tools, cabochons and/or silver supplies if they have them, but please make sure any tools are labeled with the student’s name. Students will need to purchase the silver they use in
the class if they don’t bring their own supplies. Ghost Ranch has all the needed metals available for purchase at the studio.
PLEASE NOTE: Students should expect to spend between $100-$200 on silver for the week- this cost in NOT included in the class fee.
Students should also bring clothing that can get dirty and closed-toe shoes
for safety.

Bill Derreverre taught jewelry design and sculpture and 3-Dimensional art at Tulsa Community College for 45 years and retired 6 years ago. He also taught blacksmithing, pewter-smithing and Silversmithing at Ghost Ranch for 35 years. He is currently teaching and working at AHHA in Tulsa teaching jewelry design and has been working in their metals and jewelry studio for over 4 years.
