Sparkling Soil – Working with Micaceous Clay with Barbara Campbell– G24070204

Jul 07 – 13 2024

In this class we will use earthenware clay that has been tempered with finely ground mica.  The mica gives strength and porosity to the clay making it perfect for functional and decorative use on direct flame.  We will also concentrate on creating the perfect bean pot using coil and pinch techniques.  Micaceous clay is a strong forgiving body to work with; forgiving in the one sense that it allows one to make quick and easy repairs to any major flaws that might develop in the creation process.  The pieces will be finished with a lovely burnishing slip and then fired with wood in a modified pit type kiln.
