Instructors

  • Tom Zehnder

Tom Zehnder plays guitar and djembe. Tom Zehnder holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in music composition summa cum laude from UCLA. With his twin, Tim Gibbs-Zehnder, he forms a duo based in Los Angeles.

Tom is an award-winning composer and songwriter. A 20-year veteran of the video games industry (scoring over 60 titles) as well as a performing musician, he is equally comfortable conducting a 60-piece orchestra, recording and mixing in his state-of-the-art Pro Tools studio, or performing live with his band. Tom’s experience includes writing and producing rock/dance/pop songs as well as scoring classic horror /sci-fi orchestral music. His most recent project out August 2011 involved writing and producing eight original songs for the Ubisoft Wii dance game connected to Sony Animation’s new movie “The Smurfs.” Other highlights include “Van Helsing” (lead composer/music supervisor) which garnered nominations for “Music of the Year” and “Best Orchestral Recording,” the classic cult sci-fi epic “Battlestar Galactica” (cut-scene composer and supervisor,) Fisher Price’s “Battle Castle” (lead composer), and Mattel’s “Barbie Princess and the Pauper” (composer/songwriter/singer) which won “Best Edutainment/Children Audio.” He has also scored marketing videos, corporate presentations, commercials and films.

  • Timothy Gibbs Zehnder
    Timothy Gibbs Zehnder

At 10 years old, Los Angeles native, Tim Gibbs Zehnder, began writing songs, collaborating with his brother, Tom, in their folk-singing, harmony-improvising family of five. Also exposed to a wide variety of music-making through church and school choirs, he earned a B.A. in Music Composition from UCLA. He did sound track scoring for educational gaming, but he has largely focused on faith-based social justice through the band he cofounded, Zehnder (Tim: vocals and bass; Tom Zehnder: vocals and guitar; Mike Boggio: drums); and now more recently through a reinvention of the same lineup, the band Double Batch Daddy, where Tim co-writes and produces songs, sings, plays bass, mandolin, and percussion.

For 20 summers, Tim has brought his love of music-making to Ghost Ranch. Whether it was teaching a Stomp-like percussion class at Family Week, or infusing Youth Week with truly eclectic worship music including writing theme songs for the week, he brings a passion for authentic story telling and a deep commitment to holding space for the healing balm of music.
