Paleontology of Ghost Ranch Tour
Weekly Thursday Paleontology Tours begin on April 2 and continue through October 29th, 2020
This Tour will provide you with a thorough introduction to Triassic discoveries made here at Ghost Ranch. We will drive and then walk to the original quarry site and step back in time geologically and historically to better understand the significance of our most famous discovery the state fossil of New Mexico, coelophysis barri. Along the way, we will explore the history of Ghost Ranch as well as flora and fauna of the Upper Sonoran zone. The Tour concludes at the Ruth Hall Paleontology Museum with a presentation of our collection. Walking distance is 2 miles. Be prepared to walk for an hour and a half at an elevation of 6,400′.. You will need sturdy shoes, a hat, water, sunscreen and a long-sleeve shirt or windbreaker. Note: Due to the elevation and dry environment, this walking tour is not suitable for those with medical conditions or fragile health.
Time: 10:00 a.m. – Noon Thursdays
April 2nd – October 29th, 2020. This Tour requires 2 miles of walking at 6,400’ elevation. Tours are limited to #8 guests.
Cost: $49 for adults; $24 for students (5 – 17) Ticket sales are processed through our ticket sales agent, FareHarbor. The processing fee will be added to your ticket purchase.
