Churches in the midst of change–whether that is a change in pastoral leadership, location or culture –have unique opportunities to explore who God is calling them to be and what God is calling them to do. Often it is up to the pastor to lead a congregation through this time of change and growth, and it can be challenging to know where to start. The vast majority of churches in the PC (USA) and other mainline denominations are small and struggling to know what it means to live out the gospel in ways that invite others to follow Jesus. This course will help the participants learn to lead adaptively — to analyze the congregational context, connect the congregation with needs in the community, and assume responsibility appropriately.
While this program will help pastors learn the work of the intentional interim/transitional leader, the overall purpose transcends that particular calling. All churches in the US, regardless of location or leadership, are in the midst of a cultural transition and the work of the pastor is to lead adaptively in these times of anxiety and change.
PLEASE BE AWARE THAT THIS EVENT BEGINS ON SUNDAY AFTERNOON AT 3PM AND ENDS AT NOON ON FRIDAY. In order to receive a certificate of completion, you must be present for the entire event. Please take this into consideration when making travel plans; Ghost Ranch is in a remote area, so it is more than an hour from Santa Fe and more than 2 hours from Albuquerque by car; it will take even longer if you choose to use a shuttle service from the airport. It is advisable for those serving in pastoral roles with congregations to use Sunday as a travel day and find coverage for your pulpit on that Sunday morning.
This is open to clergy and lay congregational leaders of any denomination. This workshop is considered Week 1 of the Art of Transitional Ministry, and provided in partnership with the Transitional Ministry Education Consortium of the PC (USA). Spouses/Partners are welcome – Non-Participant fee $395 per person (covers lodging in same room and meals).
