At Ghost Ranch, Georgia O’Keeffe found inspiration in the desert around her. Plants and animal bones were among her favorite subjects, often in combination. Here is your chance to explore how the same subjects inspire the artist in YOU! Refine your art skills with a week in residence at historic Casa del Sol, near O’Keeffe’s beloved Ghost Ranch home, under the guidance of Helen Byers, an award-winning artist and illustrator with years of experience in realistic drawing and painting. Helen’s in-depth demos and personalized instruction will guide participants in techniques using charcoal, colored pencil, and watercolor. In Bones & Blossoms: O’Keeffe & You, choose one medium in which to work, or try all three. Select bones and flowers will be provided (and we may find more in bloom nearby, including Indian Paintbrush and Yucca). Some previous drawing experience helpful. Join us! Our schedule will include: 7:30-8:30 Breakfast* 9:00-12:00 Morning instruction 12:00-1:30 Lunch* 1:30-5:30 Free time to continue working semi-independently (or what you will) 5:30-6:30 Dinner* 7:00-8:30 Nature walks, fireside camaraderie, star-gazing, a video or two… *Meals may be taken at Casa del Sol or in the Dining Hall, a mile away on the main campus of the Ranch.
