Powerful Storytelling: Words & Images with Beverly Army Williams & Gale Zucker – G26100108

Date

Oct 04 – 10 2026

How does place affect the story we tell? The way we tell the story? With Ghost Ranch and the high desert as our playground, we will explore the connections of place to story, and of words to images. Participants will use their phone cameras in sophisticated and artful ways, creating narrative imagery about their Ghost Ranch experience. We will do photography exercises /challenges that move participants out of their visual ruts and guide them to creating imagery that is fresh, artful and most importantly, true to their own vision. Writing exercises inviting participants to observe how they feel in the landscape will be married to photography to capture the striking physical external world at Abiquiu as well as participants’ internal landscapes while staying at the Ghost Ranch.

Each of the first three days will be split between photography and writing. Our first few days will center on making powerful photographs and using easy-to-learn tools to edit them. Writing prompts that engage participants in noticing with all of their senses will transform into a story of time spent at Ghost Ranch. Beverly and Gale will meet with each participant to provide feedback and guidance as they use the last two days to develop and workshop their projects before finalizing them.  Participants will learn how to unite words and images for a more impactful story and will build confidence in their storytelling and photography skills.
