Contemplative Astronomy with Wayne HIcks – G25060405
Utilizing the power of the large Ghost Ranch telescope to observe planets, stars and galaxies, this experiential workshop will embrace some of life’s deeper questions and concerns. While important questions may not be answered during this exploration, an opportunity will be provided for them to be considered in a different way. Taking in the breathtaking Ghost Ranch nighttime skies and beautiful daytime landscapes will be key in this endeavor. By actually observing the vast stellar universe in a profound way, a new understanding of one’s fundamental nature and purpose may be gleaned. There also may be a discovery of new and different perspectives on some of humanity’s spiritual traditions and philosophical ideas.
Basic contemplation will be explored and encouraged alongside celestial and terrestrial observations in order to support the possibility of a qualitative shift in perspective. Importantly, there will be no teaching of, nor emphasis on, any particular religion, philosophy or practice. Participants are encouraged to attend with curiosity as well as an open heart and mind.

Wayne HicksWayne’s interest in the skies began when he saw the rings of Saturn as a teenager. He then became an amateur astronomer, licensed pilot and Air Traffic Controller. He first experienced the wondrous night skies of Ghost Ranch in 1982, when he was a participant in a course titled “Exploring the Cosmos.” He then accepted an invitation to teach astrophotography at Ghost Ranch throughout the 80’s.
ASTROPHOTOGRAPHY:
A few years ago, Wayne experienced digital astrophotography with his smartphone for the first time. Now, he is enthusiastic about showing participants in astronomy and astrophotography courses how to easily begin capturing dramatic astrophotos with digital cameras as well as with the smartphone camera in our pocket.
CONTEMPLATING THE UNIVERSE:
Like many, Wayne began contemplating life’s meaning after dealing with a very challenging personal situation. Following a period of revealing and illuminating insights, Wayne led retreats in order to support those who wished to consider some of the deeper aspects of life. With “Contemplative Astronomy” he is very enthusiastic about supporting you in the exploration of our universe, potentially providing a greater receptivity to inspiration as well as a possible shift in perspective.
