Ryan Drickey recently spent a year with a Fulbright in Sweden studying traditional Swedish fiddle styles. Rooted in bluegrass and old-time, he won the Rockygrass fiddle competition in 2007, and played and taught across the US as well as in Europe, Canada, and Australia.
He is currently playing with the bluegrass/americana/honky-tonk outfit known as Finnders and Youngberg (FY5 www.finndersandyoungberg.com), as well as with Cahalen Morrison and Eli West.
He holds a Masters of Music in violin from the University of Colorado at BoulderKnown for his subtle and expressive touch, his influences range from the 20th century classical virtuoso tradition to the rural old-time fiddling of Appalachia, from the formidable traditions of Scandinavian dance music to the wild intricacies of American Jazz. While remaining deeply respectful of the traditions from which he has learned, Ryan brings his own musical language into everything he plays.
Currently splitting his time between New York and Colorado, Ryan can be often be heard playing concerts and dances across the US and abroad. He has performed on the Late Show with David Letterman and the Ellen DeGeneres Show. He has worked with artists such as Matt Morris, Darrell Scott, Matt Flinner, Opera Colorado, The Greeley Philharmonic, The Denver Philharmonic, and many others.
