Rebecca Reyes grew up in Texas and currently lives in Durham, North Carolina. She received an M.Div. from Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary and in 1979 was ordained as the first Hispanic woman in the Presbyterian Church US. In 1993 she received a Master of Social Work from UNC-Chapel Hill. Rebecca worked with Duke Medical Center as coordinator for Hispanic Health Services. Rebecca is involved in several state and inter-agency committees and groups addressing justice issues, health care, and community development. Rebecca received the Diversity Award from Duke University and Health System in 2003 and in 2014 she was awarded Manos Carinosas Medical Award. In 2016 Rebecca received the “Distinguished Alumni Award” from Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary.
