David F. García, Ph.D., is from northern New Mexican community of El Guache. An anthropologist and musical artist, he studies music, agriculture and foodways in northern New Mexico as they relate to sustainability and the cultural survival of Indo-Hispano communities. His expansive musical repertory includes songs drawn from his fieldwork, nationwide tours with Al Hurricane and El Gringo, and his own compositions. He writes coplas and canciones, and has crafted the first décimas written in New Mexico since the 1950s. David has played with many local groups, including Los de Río Arriba led by Arturo Delgado who has worked and performed in New Mexico for the past fifteen years, giving voice to the experience of Mexican immigrants.
