Oils and Pastels: In the Studio G220625 with Natasha Isenhour
In this week long immersion, Oils and Pastels: In the Studio, with your inner artist in one of the most inspiring settings in the nation, you will enhance your understanding of recording what you see in your own voice with oils or pastels as your medium. If you use watercolor or acrylic, you are certainly welcome although Natasha’s expertise and explanation is geared toward oil and pastel.
The landscape at Ghost Ranch provides infinite challenges with the quickly changing light, varied textures and shapes, and is full of color both to inspire you and to teach you to be a better painter.
Oils and Pastels: In the Studio – We will be working, in studio, to raise your skill level and to learn tips and tricks for better compositions and for better overall conveyance of your subject. So much of the process of learning to “see” is being able to articulate what it is that causes you to react to the beauty of a scene or a still life.
Natasha Isenhour will teach you how atmosphere, big shapes and composition, temperature and color all play a part in expressing that reaction in your painting.
Each day will begin with discussion about the reference we will be concentrating on for the day. After you begin working Natasha will go around to each participant individually to help you toward creating your
Photo references of the local landscape are provided. You can paint from the printouts provided, or if you have an iPad or tablet that you can bring, that works great for your
reference. Bring a few references of your own for later in the week if you wish.
This class requires at least minimal experience with the medium of oils or pastels, but all levels of skill are most welcome to attend. You will be “starting where you are” once we get settled into the first painting of the class. In this highly nurturing environment where the only competition you will have is the last painting you painted. Natasha looks forward to meeting each one of you on this journey.

What is the difference between a room with private bath, a room with semi-private or shared bath, and a room with communal/dorm bath?
Private bath refers to the type of bathroom, not single occupancy
Private Bath Room: There is a bathroom in that one room that is not shared between or with any other rooms. The highest rate tier of Ghost Ranch lodging.
Semi-private/shared: There is a bathroom between two rooms that is shared by the occupants of the two adjoining sleeping rooms. These rooms will only be used as family or group suites, not to be shared by unknown neighbors as in the past.
Communal/dorm: There is a communal bathroom/shower in the lodging building and participants will need to exit their room to reach these facilities.
