Inside Curve with Julie Wildman G220624

This playful hand is an original style designed by instructor Julie Wildman several years ago. The distinctive features of the letterforms are the inside curve, while the outer part of the letter is angular. How that is achieved is where the fun comes in! These letters are primarily meant to be drawn, not lettered with a specific tool. However, once a student understands the underlying structure, these built-up letters can lend themselves to a variety of applications.

Join us Inside Curve with Julie Wildman and let the curves and angles of the Ghost Ranch red rocks and hills inspire your creativity.

At this time masks are optional in indoor spaces. Proof of covid vaccination or negative test within 72 hours of arrival at Ghost Ranch. Both policies are subject to change. Sample: Lodging options for 6-night workshops range from dorm-style $684 to private bath $1,074 which includes room and meals for the first person occupying the room. If you are sharing the room with a family member or trusted travel companion, the second occupant should register for their workshop separately and choose the "commuter" or "2nd+ person sharing a room option" in lieu of a lodging option. This will help ensure that all participants are included in meal counts, and placed in the correct workshop in order to receive the pertinent follow-up information.

What day/time does the workshop start and end?

In-person workshops begin with check-in at 3:00 p.m. and a ranch orientation in the evening on the first date listed for the course and end at 10:00 a.m. with checkout on the last date listed.

Virtual workshops will have a varied schedule that is identified within each workshop description.

During Covid safety period - single occupancy lodging is the standard
  • During Covid-19 periods, all lodging types will be single occupancy at no additional charge. Of course, you can share a room with a spouse, partner, family or another person that shares your full-time residence. The extra folks that share a room will pay for workshop registration fees and meals.
What is the difference between a room with private bath, a room with semi-private or shared bath, and a room with communal/dorm bath?

Private bath refers to the type of bathroom, not single occupancy

Private Bath Room: There is a bathroom in that one room that is not shared between or with any other rooms. The highest rate tier of Ghost Ranch lodging.

Semi-private/shared: There is a bathroom between two rooms that is shared by the occupants of the two adjoining sleeping rooms. These rooms will only be used as family or group suites, not to be shared by unknown neighbors as in the past.

Communal/dorm: There is a communal bathroom/shower in the lodging building and participants will need to exit their room to reach these facilities.

    Julie Wildman

Julie Wildman is a highly regarded professional in the fields of graphic design, commercial lettering, calligraphy and workshops. Her studio is in northwest Indiana, only 30 minutes from downtown Chicago.
Her calligraphic interest began in the late ‘80s after a friend gave her Timothy Botts’ book "Doorposts," and she saw the written word illustrated in such a way as never before. About ten years later, she had the privilege of taking a year-long class with an internationally known calligrapher and was hooked. She joined the Chicago Calligraphy Collective soon after and embarked on a lifelong journey of studying letters.
Since then, her work has been exhibited in juried shows throughout the Midwest and the U.S., including the Newberry Library in Chicago.
In 2007 and 2014, her pieces "Psalm 117" and "An Alphabet Book," respectively, won the Newberry’s Purchase Prize Award and became a part of the Library’s permanent collection. Her work has also been published in many issues of Letter Arts Review, as well as Bound & Lettered, a publication featuring the works of accomplished calligraphers and book artists.
She loves line, shape, color, texture, paper, ink, and paint and often can’t believe she gets to play with them for a living! She enthusiastically shares her love of "beautiful writing" with young and old by teaching calligraphy for staff development classes, on-site promotional events, community programs and personal growth workshops throughout the Chicagoland area, U.S., and Canada. And now with Zoom classes, she has taught hundreds of students from more than 20 countries around the world.
