A Sense of Place: Georgia O'Keeffe in New Mexico by Barbara Buhler Lynes, Lesley Poling-Kempes, and Frederick W. Turner ~~
This very popular book masterfully blends enlightening text with outstanding color reproductions of fifty of O’Keeffe’s paintings. Many of these reproductions are shown side by side with photos of the same site. Lynes, Curator of the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum, focuses on the relationship of the artist’s paintings to the places that inspired her. Poling-Kempes’ comments provide the reader with an absorbing account of the years O’Keeffe spent in this area. Turner contributes an interesting discussion contrasting O’Keeffe’s aloof personality with her passionate closeness to the land she loved so deeply.
