Participants will have the opportunity to decide about different firing methods. One of the most exciting and hands-on types of firing is the paper kiln. It is a process of building a primitive kiln around the pottery and then lighting it off. Another technique is the pit firing and barrel firing. We will discuss the various methods and decide which one or ones we would like to explore during the course. I will have various materials that explain many types of alternative firings. Alternative firing refers to firing that doesn’t require a commercial kiln and that leaves the marks of open flame on the ware. All levels welcome!
