Ghost Ranch is often in need of volunteers to share their time and talents at both locations. Some needs are long term and others are short term.

 

Ghost Ranch in Santa Fe is seeking volunteers for the following areas:

  1. A volunteer couple to do building maintenance and front desk reception. This is also a long term assignment with housing provided. 
  2. Volunteers to do maintenance, general administration support and/or seasonal gardening 

Also available, either paid or volunteer with housing and meals provided -

  1.  half-time maintenance worker with basic plumbing, electrical 1 and general maintenance skills, and
  2.  a retired or licensed plumber 

These can be either two half-time positions or one full time position depending on the skill level. English language required.

 

Ghost Ranch in Abiquiu is seeking volunteers for the following areas:   

  1. Front desk receptionist to help us warmly greet guests.
  2. Overnight On Call Volunteer to answer the main phone when the Front Desk is closed. Long term, 6-12 months.
  3. Computer specialist to perform desktop troubleshooting, general computer systems development and hardware maintenance
  4. School activities coordinator to be responsible for planning, coordinating, and organizing on-site school visits with Ghost Ranch's Florence Hawley Ellis Museum of Anthropology, the Ruth Hall Museum of Paleontology and the Ghost Ranch Piedra Lumbre Education and Visitor Center.  

These are long-term volunteer positions for which housing will be provided.

EMERGENCY HEALTH CARE COORDINATOR / VOLUNTEER POSITION

Ghost Ranch is looking for registered nurses or EMTs with current New Mexico licenses and malpractice insurance to serve for a month at a time in our off season. We need someone who can provide simple first aid, handle emergency medical situations and coordinate appropriate care and transportation with the local Rescue Squads. 

Housing for this position may be located in the Health Center, a small adobe building with a bedroom, bath and sitting room.  The infirmary is in the same building. Three meals a day are provided.  We hope to recruit individuals who can stay a minimum of one month. If the Health Center rooms are rented other housing will be provided.

Ghost Ranch Abiquiu is owned by the Presbyterian Church USA. The setting is breathtaking.  The responsibilities for this position are sporadic so you should have time for reading, painting or just soaking up the vistas. HOUSEKEEPERS

Volunteer housekeepers are part of the housekeeping team and are responsible for maintaining a comfortable and clean environment for guests and conference participants. Housekeepers work 40 hrs a week cleaning guest rooms, public spaces and meeting rooms as and provide laundry services as well.

In exchange for their service to Ghost Ranch, volunteers receive housing and three meals a day.  We ask for a minimum stay of six weeks. The work week is full but you will have time to enjoy the breathtaking beauty of the area while helping preserve and sustain a place of unique historic, spiritual and environmental significance.

Other opportunities to volunteer:

 

Abiquiu:  Is Service Corps for you? Registration fee includes Service Corps T-shirt. Participants pay one-half the housing-and-meals fee which includes meals. Campers pay one-half the tent/trailer fee and get one free meal in the dining hall per day. Coordinators: Bill and Carol Mackey.

Participants work in service to the Ranch and its programs approximately five hours a day. Registration is on a weekly basis from Monday to Sunday, summer months only, and no other seminar may be taken while in Service Corps. More information and a skill/interest indicator will be sent upon registration.

In summer months Service Corps participants provide service to the Ghost Ranch in Abiquiu, forming friendships and bonds through their service — those receptive to the “magic” of this place. Work consists of light maintenance and construction, help with needs in food service, housekeeping, library, museums, and in various offices. On occasion, there are off-Ranch community service requests.

Work approximately five hours per day and keep your own time record. Meet four afternoons each week at 4:45 p.m. to get work assignments for the next day and to hear reports on “how the day has gone.” Register for Service Corps as you would a seminar.

Summer 2009 College Staff

Summer at Ghost Ranch with memories and friends to last a lifetime! Join the College Staff at Ghost Ranch in Abiquiu. Students applying should have completed their sophomore year in college. Students receive a ten-week stipend of $1,500 ($150 per week) and room and board. Ten students will be chosen to work as  instructors with the children and young people's program. The curriculum used in the Youth Activities Program was created by the National Peacemaking Program. Other positions available for college staff include food services, environmental services, library, wrangler, and hospitality intern. COMMUNITY PROGRAMS

The John Stephenson Community Farm is in need of volunteers to help harvest fruits and vegetables throughout the month of August and part of September. Produce is distributed to the food programs of Santa Fe. If you can help, call Ghost Ranch in Santa Fe at 505.982.8539.
