From its beginnings in 1955, there has been a strong volunteer spirit at Ghost Ranch. People would suggest projects they could do, and while some of this desire to help was utilized, much potential was lost until Dean and June Lewis (deceased) formed the first Service Corps in 1979. 3cross_sml

In summer months Service Corps participants provide direct service to the Ranch and form a community within the seminar who can identify with each other and who are receptive to the “magic” of this magic place. Service Corps work generally consists of light maintenance and construction work.

Participants might also respond to needs in food service, housekeeping, library, museums, and in various offices. On occasion there are off-Ranch community service requests. In 1990, Service Corps was provided with space for a shop, and, through donations from a number of individuals, has been partially equipped with tools and equipment, a golf cart and an elderly pickup truck.

Additional tools and equipment could be used to advantage, making Service Corps more efficient, and would reduce dependence on permanent staff tools and space. In the summer of 2001, Dean Lewis donated "The Ms. June B", a 1981 red Toyota pickup in honor of June Lewis.
