Ghost Ranch was a gift to the Presbyterian Church (USA) in 1955 from Arthur and Phoebe Pack. Since its donation, the lands of Ghost Ranch have served as a base for thousands seeking to improve themselves and their community. In 1972 the National Ghost Ranch Foundation was formed to raise funds for the Ranch. This group of friends of the Ranch sought to broaden the number who would support the Ranch by launching the Compadre program in 1986. In 1990 we expanded our program through the purchase of Ghost Ranch in Santa Fe (formerly Plaza Resolana).

Life in northern New Mexico is about relationships. Relationships are important within community, family, and church.

lilliesMany guests develop a special relationship with Ghost Ranch in Abiquiu and in Santa Fe. Children find a place of security here as they "grow up" on the Ranch. To many across the country we are family, a place of annual reunions among friends. For others, we are a place of awakening and rebirth, a sanctuary, representing a relationship to the divine. We encourage you to be in partnership with us by becoming our amigo or compadre through your gift .

The Spanish term "Compadre" refers to the relationship between the parents and godparents of a child. The godparents, like the natural parents, assume responsibility to protect and nurture the spiritual, intellectual and physical well-being of the godchild. Therefore you who commit to be Compadres del Rancho in Abiquiu and in Santa Fe have affirmed that Ghost Ranch means something very special to your lives and that you are committing yourself to a special relationship to the Ranch.

The Compadre program uses as its symbol a Pueblo ladder. The Pueblo ladder is used to climb to the rooftops of adobe homes and religious structures. It is on the rooftop that families and communities had conversation, enjoyed the cool evening air and gained vision for the future. We invite you to join us as a member of our family to envision and support our future.

If you are a new visitor or youth we invite you to take your first step of commitment on the ladder at a special price of $50. While a basic membership in the Compadre program is $125, we would encourage you to climb the ladder of commitment. The mission of Ghost Ranch and its vision for the future is dependent on your gift. We know Ghost Ranch has meant a great deal to you and your family and would ask that you help us by offering your financial support.
