This course will offer an in-depth week of group study, reflection and spiritual practices to open ourselves to the inner, spiritual "greening" and nourishment to be found in connecting more deeply with God in the sacred "place apart" that is Casa del Sol. This "greening of our spirits" is vital in helping to sustain, grow and empower our earthkeeping efforts in our congregations and faith communities.
This course would be helpful to both clergy and laity, to those already engaged in creation care activities (and perhaps feeling some "burnout" in their efforts), as well as those who feel God's call to "do something" but aren't quite sure where to start. Participants will use portions of Awakening to God's Call to Earthkeeping (a provided, 4-session curriculum) and discuss ways to present this and other resources in their own settings.
Morning and evening sessions will incorporate scripture study and eco-theology, eco-spirituality, times for contemplative and short written reflections, ideas for creation-honoring worship and group prayer and discussion. We may also plan a group hike or two! Participants should leave feeling re-energized, empowered and more equipped to help lead earthkeeping efforts in their local contexts, with the conviction that in caring for the Earth, we also care for one another and make our faith more alive and relevant in and to a broken world.
