THE SPIRITUAL JOURNEY will begin on August 20, 2010 (Friday with dinner at 5:30pm) and conclude on August 27, 2010 (Friday at noon).
This week-long intensive supports participants in a deep exploration of their personal spiritual lives in a small group setting, deeply enriching their relationship with God/Spirit and recognizing the ways that God is present and working in their lives. Experienced spiritual directors will facilitate and guide participants in developing their skills in deep listening and personal discernment. The program introduces members to the deep and expansive practices of Christian spiritual formation, the ancient practice of Spiritual Direction, and a process whereby participants will discern the next steps in their spiritual journey.
This program is also a prerequisite for the THE ART OF SPIRITUAL DIRECTION FORMATION PROGRAM which is scheduled over the period beginning November 2010 and ending in March 2012 with sessions scheduled November 15 - 21, 2010; March 7-13, 2011; October 10-16, 2011; and March 5-11, 2012. . The class will enrich anyone who is exploring their spiritual gifts and how they might make them available. It is particularly useful to anyone considering a call to become a spiritual director, counselor or companion to others on their spiritual journey. The Spiritual Journey is open to people of all denominations and faiths. Stillpoint is rooted in the Christian tradition and welcomes a diverse and inclusive learning community. People of all faith traditions are welcome. Clergy, lay people, chaplains, pastoral counselors and others in helping professions are invited to attend.
The Commitment
The program consists of one seven-day week.The residency includes spiritual and personal exploration, group processes and discussions of assigned readings, and practice in forms of prayer and contemplation.
Participants who discern a call to become Spiritual Directors can apply to The Art of Spiritual Direction Formation and Training Program at Ghost Ranch which begins November 15-21, 2010. The Spiritual Journey may be used as a stand-alone course and/or the prerequisite for the formation course in Spiritual Direction.
Faculty
Three highly experienced spiritual directors/companions will facilitate the class: Judith Favor, Christopher McCauley and Ravi Verma.
Judith Favor Rev. Judith Favor is a seasoned spiritual director, ordained in the United Church of Christ, and teaches at Stillpoint and the Claremont School of Theology. She worships with Quakers, is a grandmother, and lives with spouse Pete Nelson in community at Pilgrim Place, Claremont, California.
Christopher McCauley Christopher is the Executive Director, Stillpoint: The Center for Christian Spirituality, in Pasadena, California. He is also a spiritual director, worships in the Episcopal Church, and leads interfaith pilgrimages. Christopher is a member of the Coordinating Council of Spiritual Directors International, the first global learning network of spiritual directors in history.
Ravi Verma Ravi Verma is a spiritual director and has worked professionally with churches and lay leaders for over twenty-five years. Ravi’s passion is to work with individual and groups to build bridges between parts of ourselves, with others and the cosmos based on our connection to the Divine. Ravi, born in India, now teaches at Stillpoint, and works with corporations, retreat centers, and non-profits in issues of spiritual development.
